Some were led to believe....
Who were these some? And who or what led them to believe that? Did they just come up with idea on their own? Were they counselled or reproved for believing this?

the illegal dump site in upstate ny has received quite a lot of attention lately (as well it should)... .
however, having been involved in several kh remodels, i think the wts little regard for the environment extends way beyond this dumpsite.
as some of you probably know, the workday at a kh remodel usually starts with a prayer, breakfast and a 5 minute safety talk... the safety talk was a joke (e.g.

through the new covenant, jehovah makes blessings.
available to many by means of a few.
the covenant are few, a mere 144,000. through.
I don't see anything new or out of the ordinary here. This is standard JW doctrine from the last 60 years or so. It may not always be laid out as clearly. For instance, most JWs do not realize that as part of the "great crowd", Jesus is not their mediator. Yet according to the Watchtower, he is not, and they have stated as much consistently over the years.

seems like the original star trek was almost universally enjoyed.
from the kooky music theme 'space.....ahhhhh ahhhh ahhh ahhhhhhhh ahhh', the upbeat message, the deep subject matter...the chemistry of the characters.
you remember being much younger almost felt like not a care in the world?
Sab, you also are entitled to your opinions, even when they are wrong.
Hahaa comparing Lost to Steinbeck!!!! Seriously???? Steinbeck is one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. Lost is a giant exercise in pretentious navel-gazing, already forgotten by most. Yes it was entertaining for a while, perhaps brilliant at times Ben's whole performance as "Henry Gale" was incredible. But that doesn't excuse the lax writing and the total copout of an ending that they foisted on the audience. After years of insisting they had an ending in mind, that they knew where they were going with the story, and that all would be explained, they just basically threw up their hands and said, eh, this is all we got.
Look, I understand, its a tv series, things happen, actors quit, ideas get tossed around, revised, that's fine. I did not expect every little oddity and riddle to be wrapped up with a clever explanation. I was even willing to accept some glaring errors that simply slipped through and that in hindsight made no sense at all. Even when one of their central characters was a kid, and somehow they didn't take into account the fact that kids grow! But I expected at least some kind of ending that fit with what had gone on the first five seasons of the show. Instead they created a whole new puzzle for the sixth season and then congratulated themselves that they were able to resolve this new riddle in a way that kind of made sense.

JJ Abrams is a completely overrated hack. Lost dragged people along for 6 seasons with the promise of an ending that would resolve all the plot contortion, only to wind up saying, no we have no answers, what made you think there would be answers? His version of Star Trek was dreadfully bad, like a six year old who heard of Star Trek and tried describing it to his friend, who then tried to make a movie out of it. Yes the characters had the right names, yes they were on a spaceship called the Enterprise, their uniforms kinda looked like the original series, that's about it. The rest of it had no connection at all to what made Star Trek great. Now it's going to be four years before the next one is released. Four years! And so far the best idea they can come up with is Khan?? That's original!

just a little tidbit from the congregation i attend..... the congregation has approximately 120 publishers.. well over 1000 magazines per month are picked up, not to mention all the books, brochures, and tracts that are picked up.. there was a "local needs" part on the service meeting recently, asking for more contributions.. it seems our congregation has averaged just about $300 per month contributions to the "worldwide work" over the past year.. .
assuming 1500 magazines / month, that's just 20 cents per magazine - and that completely ignores all other literature that is picked up.. the last price the magazines had, 20+ years ago, was 25 cents per issue.
with inflation that would have been about 50 cents each now.. just another sign of how severely the contriutions to the society are drying up..... .
The Society does not own all the Kingdom Halls, why do you people keep repeating this misinformation???? Kingdom Halls are owned by a local corporation set up by the congregations that use the Kingdom Hall.
If you have been following the story about the Menlo Park congregation you would know this. If the Watchtower owned the title to that Hall then there would be nothing stopping them from selling it off. But since the local congregation owns the Hall, they have had to resort to removing the elders and replacing them with yes-men elders who will do as they are told.

a relative of mine who is disfellowshipped for having a baby out of wedlock and living with the babys daddy has a sister who is an active jehovahs witness.
she has had nothing to do with her newborn neice for 9 months and outta the blue textes who sister and asks her to meet at a. restaurant as they are in town and would like to see the baby.
the mom out of love gave in so her nephews could see their cousin whom they'll never know.
Good for her to tell them off! They are the ones with messed up rules, not her!
I can tell you this, I would never allow any children of mine to associate with someone who is shunning me.

since i know the truth about jw, and still have to go to meetings for family reasons (and because i don't want to leave my friends, either) i get so sick in my chair in the hall.
i can't pay attention, i can't sit still knowing it's all such a waste of time and a big fat lie.
i get weird symptoms like: the feeling that i'm going to almost pass out, very sweaty or very cold, and weak legs though i'm sitting down, and the urge to get up and run away.
Just quit going. Thats what I did. My family eventually got used to the fact I wasn't in their little club anymore. If your friends don't want to associate with you anymore, well, then were they really your friends? Besides, with 7 billion people on this planet, you can easily find new friends, real friends who don't care what church you go to or if you even go or not.
Why be miserable and unhappy? It's your life, you only get one, make it the best you can. Yes there can be some pain in making this adjustment, but better to get it over with than to be miserable the rest of your life trying to do what other people think is best for you.

the gilead letter was read last night at the meeting, i had to listen in as they have reinstated my phone line, whatever.. so anywho the service overseer gave the part and he said that jehovah's organization is moving so fast that even what they have printed just a few months ago is now old and they just received a letter from the fs that was to be read tonight from the fs!.
the way he read it, he made it very exciting and like jehovah's chosen religion is moving so fast that it can hardly keep up and the letter was just proof.
the way this elder read the letter it made it sound like the married couples school is going to be so wonderful that it would suppress gilead in wonderfulness.. the elder doing the part then went on and on about how our educational programs are so much, much better than anything out in satan's world.
Ok I haven't been following all the latest goings ons, can someone fill me in on what was printed a few months ago and what was in the letter? I had heard that Gilead was no longer going to be training missionaries, but instead new students would be those already serving as elders, pioneers, etc and would be used after graduating as "troubleshooters". And that there was some new school for Married Couples, not sure what the purpose of this school was.

this kingdom hall was built in the 1960's and they still meet there.
.
.
Not to derail this thread, but I recently got to revisit my home town's former Kingdom Hall. After it was replaced in the late 70's with a new Hall, it was converted into a house, I've always been curious about how they remodeled it into a house. So it was a little surreal walking into a building I had not been inside of since I was a kid.
